Product Details

In 1948, the Gladding, McBean & Company introduced the Franciscan Ivy pattern that was hand-painted on embossed leaves and branches dinnerware. It was designed by Mary Jane Winans how was an independent artist designer that was hired by Gladding, McBean & Company. The Franciscan Ceramics products was produced in Los Angeles, California, from 1934–1962. After taking a hiatus during World War II, Franciscan came back in 1948 with its Fruit and Ivy lines of tableware. This Ivy sugar bowl was made in 1950. It has very tiny fleabites in the glaze around the lid and one chip on the base of the sugar bowl. There are some stains but no scratches. The 50 on the bottom, stands for the year it was made. I think the 48 stands for either the model number or the year it was first produced in 1948. The hallmark on the bottom is under the glaze finish. This pattern was only used between 1949 to Feb. of 1953.
